I'm in Malong, bit list of everything so far.... and Zumba!

I am currently at Mike's house and sitting at the kitchen table while their house keeper is cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. It's kind of strange to have a small, old Indonesian lady just puttering around the house. Part of me wants to strike up a conversation with her, but from what I've picked up from Indonesian culture, she's here to do a job and it would be strange to bother her when she has work to do. Update from last post.

  • Landed in Taipei and was put up in a hotel for the night, we would be leaving at 2 pm the next day. Mike and I passed out in a small, clean, Hotel 6 like room and got up the next morning.
  • We went out for a walk, did some window shopping and then returned back to the hotel and checked out.
  • Picked up by a van and dropped off at the Taipei airport.
  • Wandered the Taipei airport terminal, which looked like a giant strip mall, full of expensive designer clothing and overpriced duty free alcohol.
  • Got on the plain and flew to Singapore. The plane was smaller than our previous one, but the flight was shorter too.
  • Got out in Singapore and wandered for an hour before boarding the same plane, this time it was much less crowded.
  • Got to Surabaya at 8 or so and went through customs quickly, they only had a few questions for Mike concerning all the science sensors that he was bringing into the company.
  • Peed on my foot due to a stupid urinal shield in the bathroom! What the heck. I only can reason that they had it there so that no one would take a dump in the urinal.

  • We had a great time at the retreat, it was more of a devotional kickoff more than anything else.
  • Spent the night
  • In the morning Mike and I went for a short run and I tried out my foot for the first time in a while. it was a slow run but pretty beautiful.
    • Had water and coffee and talked with Mike while a Zumba Class broke out next door, with a loud speaker cranked to 11, which woke up everyone who had slept through the call to prayer.
    • Did more devotional stuff, everyone complained because it was freezing, 74 degrees F.
    • Drove back down the mountain.
    • Mike and I chilled at his house for a while, watched a VOD of Dota qualifier game and then went out to a coffee place called Java Dancer.  I had coffee and a chocolate plantain, Mike had ice cream with espresso poured over it.
    • realized that driving in traffic is like playing chicken with the entire world.  Just slowly start edging your way across multiple lanes of incoming traffic and have faith that they are more about avoiding you than you do.
    • Went to a nice grocery store and got some bread and cereal.
    • Came back and I fell asleep.
    • Got up and showered, video called Tami for a bit.
    • Went to the new teacher orientation and helped Mike get set up.
    • Went on the school Tour and got to see all the places that I had only seen pictures of.
      • Unpacked a bunch of school supplies that Mike had brought from the states.
      • Came back to the apartment and took care of some certificate stuff in Washington from the other side of the world.
      • Started to update my blog.
This is not how I want to do the blog, and I probably won't, but if I don't get this stuff down in a quick manner, I'll forget and not stay on top of it. In the future I'll try to do some actual blogging instead of just list making.

A little trip up North and back to the smell.

Is it normal to fear the next meal?
